Improving the lives of the impoverished - basic health care & clinics, eyeglasses, clean water, sanitation, trade schools and micro-loans.

The Hope Alliance improves the lives of the impoverished - basic health care & clinics, eyeglasses, clean water, sanitation, trade schools and micro-loans.

Imagine a life of ...

  • Only dirty water to drink, preventing what little food you can afford from staying in your system.
  • The pain of a toothache or untreated infection because no dentist or doctor is in the area.
  • Losing your newborn baby because an untrained midwife didn't know to clear the baby's airway.
  • Unable to provide for your family because you can't afford to buy the basic tools of your trade.

Embracing the vision of co-founder Dr. John Hanrahan, that basic health care should be a basic right of all humanity, The Hope Alliance creates hope by empowering impoverished people to make sustainable improvements in the quality of their lives and the lives of their families.

The Hope Alliance partners with local community leaders to identify their most pressing needs. We then make a 3-5 year commitment to provide resources, equipment, leadership and training to help villagers build solutions to those needs. In addition to donated medical supplies, when practical, we locally-source equipment and building supplies to help stimulate the local economy and ensure an accessible source of spare parts. Thanks to our hundreds of volunteers, over 94% of the money we raise is spent on in-country projects.

Through 10-20 day expeditions, volunteers from Park City and elsewhere in the US travel to Guatemala, Peru, Haiti, Kenya, Nepal, and many other areas to build schools, medical clinics, pharmacies, water filtration systems, toilets, biogas digesters and orphanages to benefit people earning less than $1 per day. While there, they teach trade skills, disease prevention, toothbrushing, first aid and midwife skills, and various crafts for the kids.

In 2012 we mounted six expeditions involving 7,540 volunteer hours that assisted well over 4,500 people. In 2013 we plan to reach even more. Would you like to join one of our trips? It is guaranteed to be one of the most challenging fulfilling adventures you can undertake, packed with hard work and a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
