Arty pianos in public places. Tuned, working, artful pianos for the public to enjoy in Park City and Summit County, Utah.
In January 2012, Art Pianos for All started a program in Summit County, Utah to bring back the piano as a centerpiece of music, community, art and fun in Park City and Summit County, Utah. Artist decorated pianos are placed in public areas to be played and enjoyed by all. This program is based on Fort Collins, Colorado’s Pianos About Town Program.
Art Pianos for All received grants from both the Park City Art Advisory Board and the Summit County Art Advisory Board to begin the program. During the first nine months of this program we have coordinated with three artists to design and paint pianos that have been placed in Summit County. A fourth piano, a grand piano, has been donated to the organization and we are actively seeking artists for a design, all with the funding from the Art Advisory Boards.
Art Pianos for All works closely with a piano tuner to ensure that the pianos are in good working order and that the placement works for the community. We also anticipate the need to repaint the pianos every two years. We are working to move piano locations every few months to allow other areas of the county to experience the project.
Please consider helping us expand the program and keep up with on-going maintenance of the pianos. The artist stipend for time and materials to paint the pianos is $650 and we will be spending over $1000 a year, per piano for moving, tuning and repair. Art Pianos for All is a Special Project of the Park City Foundation.
